Philippines, Vietnam, Laos On Alert As Typhoon Wipha Wreaks Havoc

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (KUNA) -- The governments of the Philippines, Vietnam, and Laos announced high alerts as typhoon Wipha wreaked havoc in the region, destroying properties, infrastructure, and displacing tens of thousands.
Respective authorities in each country, according to their media outlets, had issued warnings to their citizens and asked them to take extra precaution to avoid the ramifications of the natural phenomenon.
In the Philippines, authorities announced the deaths of six people, the injury of five others, while the whereabouts of six individuals was still unknown, according to local media who indicated that over a million were affected by the typhoon.
Similar outcomes occurred in Vietnam and Laos where authorities were scrambling to fend off the impact of Wipha.
Typhoon Wipha is the six registered typhoon this year in the west Pacific region. It originated from Philippine Sea before heading to northern Philippines, making its way to Vietnam and then Laos, causing strong winds, heavy rainfall, floods, and destruction to infrastructure and human life. (end)
