Hong Kong Lifts Tropical Cyclone Warning as Typhoon Wipha Departs

(MENAFN) All tropical cyclone warning signals in Hong Kong were lifted by the Hong Kong Observatory on Monday morning following the departure of Typhoon Wipha, the sixth such storm to affect the region this year.

Public transportation in the city is gradually returning to normal. According to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, the Hong Kong link road of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was reopened to all vehicles starting at midnight on Monday.

Airport Authority Hong Kong confirmed that all three runways and apron facilities at Hong Kong International Airport are now operating normally. Flight disruptions were widespread on Sunday due to the storm, with 120 inbound and 114 outbound flights recorded between 8:00 p.m. Sunday and 6:00 a.m. Monday.

In a post-storm advisory, the Hong Kong Observatory warned of potential rainstorms and rough seas on Monday, urging residents to remain cautious and steer clear of coastal areas.

Local health data revealed that, by 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, 33 individuals had sought medical attention at public hospitals for storm-related injuries.

Typhoon Wipha made its second landfall at approximately 8:15 p.m. Sunday near Hailing Island in Yangjiang, located in south China's Guangdong Province. Its initial landfall occurred around 5:50 p.m. near Haiyan Town in Jiangmen City, also in Guangdong, as it struck the mainland as a strong tropical storm.
