(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, July 16 (Petra) -- His Royal Highness Prince Mired bin Ra'ad, Chief Chamberlain and President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, conducted an unannounced visit on Wednesday to Al Karama Center for Mental Health to assess services provided to individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities.
During the visit, Prince Mired met with the center's director, Bandar Sultan, who presented a comprehensive briefing on the key challenges facing the facility. Sultan highlighted a significant shortage in both the number and specializations of staff required to maintain adequate service quality for beneficiaries, despite ongoing efforts to support the mental health sector.
He underscored the urgent need to modernize medical and rehabilitation equipment, including tools for occupational therapy, laboratory services, kitchen facilities, and dormitories. Additionally, he pointed to the necessity of maintenance work for the center's buildings, infrastructure, and gardens to ensure services align with contemporary mental health care standards.
Sultan noted that some families have abandoned individuals enrolled at the center, hindering their reintegration into family and community life.
Prince Mired emphasized the importance of enhancing service quality for individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities and called for coordinated efforts among relevant entities to ensure a safe and supportive rehabilitation environment that safeguards their dignity and rights.
The visit falls within the Higher Council's ongoing commitment to monitoring specialized institutions and addressing obstacles that prevent persons with disabilities from accessing quality services tailored to their needs.
