Army Personnel Attend Training On International Humanitarian Law
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, July 14 (Petra) -- A number of Jordan Armed Forces personnel took part on Monday in a training course titled "The Status of International Humanitarian Law in Contemporary Armed Conflicts," organized by the General Command in cooperation with the Jordanian and Qatari Committees for International Humanitarian Law.
The event was attended by the representative of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Director of Military Training, the Head of the Qatari Committee for International Humanitarian Law, the Military Judiciary Director, and the President of the State Security Court.
The representative of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff stressed that the Armed Forces prioritize this branch of law and its concepts to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness when participating in any military operations.
It is part of the core curriculum in the Forces' colleges, institutes, and schools, especially the Peacekeeping Institute, alongside ongoing cooperation with the committee, he said.
The head of the Jordanian Committee noted that the course aligns with regional work plans to implement international humanitarian law at the national level, recognizing the value of such training for Armed Forces and Public Security personnel who operate under its provisions.
The three-day course will shed light on the challenges facing international humanitarian law in light of the use of drones and cyberspace in modern armed conflicts, the extent to which the law keeps pace with these developments, and the Armed Forces' role in teaching and training on the application of the law of armed conflict.
The Jordanian Committee for International Humanitarian Law, established in 1998, works to exchange information and expertise with regional and international entities in this field and develop national plans and strategies by building the capacities of those working with international humanitarian law.
