Satellite Images Reveal Iranian Strike Damaged Key US Base
Imagery analyzed by The Associated Press and provided by Planet Labs PBC reveals that a vital communications facility-a geodesic radome-was intact on the morning of June 23 but vanished in post-strike images taken on June 25. Burn marks and structural damage to nearby buildings further support the claim of a direct hit.
The radome, installed in 2016 at a cost of $15 million, housed the US military's Modernization Enterprise Terminal (MET), a critical communications hub for operations across the Middle East. Iran released a video displaying before-and-after satellite photos of the destruction, asserting it successfully targeted the facility.
This development followed Iran's strike in response to US attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow. Despite the escalation, Washington stopped short of any reprisal, with Trump swiftly promulgating a unilateral ceasefire on behalf of Washington and Tel Aviv, which still remains in place.
Neither the US nor Qatari governments have formally acknowledged the extent of the damage. Al Udeid remains the largest US base in the region and serves as a strategic node for CENTCOM operations.
