Polish President Warns Against Ignoring Country
(MENAFN) Polish President Andrzej Duda has expressed strong criticism toward Ukraine and its Western partners, accusing them of taking Poland’s contributions to the war effort for granted.
Duda emphasized that Poland would no longer tolerate being sidelined in crucial international decision-making processes.
According to a Polish news agency, Duda pointed out that both Ukrainian and Western officials have come to treat essential Polish infrastructure, particularly the Rzeszow airport and national highways, as if they were their own.
The president remarked that this attitude is unacceptable, stressing, "For example, I believe that both Ukrainians and our allies simply believe that the Rzeszow airport and our highways are theirs, excuse me, as if they were theirs. Well, it's not theirs, it's ours."
Duda further warned that Poland had the power to halt operations if its interests were disregarded, adding, "If someone doesn't like something, we close it down and say goodbye. Yes, we're renovating it. We close the Rzeszow airport and deliver aid to Ukraine by sea, by air, I don't know, parachute it in. Figure it out if you don't think you need us."
The Polish president underscored that Poland's significant support for Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s war has often gone unacknowledged or ignored by both Ukrainian and Western officials.
He argued that Poland should have been more assertive in ensuring its contributions were recognized.
Duda also warned that Poland could leverage its vital role in military logistics during future negotiations.
He acknowledged that there were moments when Poland should have made it clear that it could not be overlooked, saying, "I believe there were issues where we could have made it a little clear that we cannot be bypassed or ignored. And we didn't do that. And that was a mistake."
He concluded by asserting that Poland has every right to expect proper recognition and respect from its allies.
