Egypt states ‘no military solutions’ to Israel-Iran predicament

(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has called for a peaceful, diplomatic solution to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, warning against further military escalation. During a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, Sisi emphasized that the crisis cannot be resolved through military means and urged both sides to avoid deepening the cycle of violence.

A spokesperson for Egypt’s presidency noted that Sisi condemned Israel’s ongoing military actions, labeling them a significant threat to the Middle East’s already fragile stability. In a separate statement, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry voiced “deep concern” over recent developments in Iran, strongly opposing the intensifying hostilities and reaffirming the importance of respecting state sovereignty and international law.

The crisis escalated on June 13 when Israeli airstrikes targeted key Iranian facilities, including the uranium enrichment site in Natanz. Several senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists were also targeted. Iran retaliated with ballistic missile strikes on Israeli territory, resulting in continued tit-for-tat attacks between the two nations and forcing civilians to seek shelter.

On Sunday, former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had bombed three major Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—claiming the strikes had completely destroyed the facilities.

The growing conflict has drawn criticism from African countries. South Africa urged President Trump to leverage his influence to encourage all parties to seek a diplomatic resolution and called for the United Nations to take the lead in peace efforts. Earlier in June, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf also denounced Israel’s strikes on Iran, describing them as aggression and calling for immediate UN Security Council action.
