Halal Project To Launch Southeast Asia Mission

(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – The Halal do Brasil project will carry out a trade mission to Malaysia and Singapore from September 14 to 20, allowing food and beverage companies to explore potential business opportunities in these two Muslim-majority countries. On Monday (7), the webinar“Malaysia and Singapore-Opportunities in Southeast Asia” presented the characteristics of the countries and details of the mission's agenda. The mission is organized by Halal do Brasil, a project spearheaded by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC ) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) to promote halal products made in Brazil abroad.

In addition to the mission, Brazilian companies will participate through the Halal do Brasil project in the MIHAS fair in Malaysia, from September 17 to 20. It is the world's largest halal products fair. The Halal do Brasil project will be participating for the third time.

ABCC International Relations Vice President of International Relations & Secretary-General Mohamad Mourad said during the webinar that exporting to Malaysia and Singapore means accessing a consumer market estimated at USD 6 to USD 7 trillion per year, encompassing 57 countries, including Southeast Asian and Arab nations.“These are extremely promising markets, with populations and economies growing above the global average,” he said.

Brazil's agricultural attaché in Malaysia, Dalci Bagolin, presented market and regulatory characteristics of Malaysia and pointed out products that are in demand there. Among these products, he mentioned cocoa, cotton, and leather, as the country processes food and apparel items and distributes them to various other countries. Coffee, honey, and açaí, as well as value-added products, also have a market in Malaysia. However, products always need to have halal certification to gain greater acceptance among the local population.

Southeast Asia favors exporters

Like Malaysia, Singapore re-exports products to Southeast Asia. With a small territory and six million inhabitants, it depends on imports for almost everything it consumes. Brazil's agricultural attaché in Singapore, Luiz Caruso, said that as a major importer, the Asian country has an open market where it is easy to find contacts and do business.

But Singapore also presents its challenges.“Potential exporters coming here need to be aware that it's a completely open market and easy to do business in, but on the other hand, they'll be competing with products from the United States, Europe, Malaysia, and neighboring countries. I found it very easy to access data on potential importers and market statistics,” he said.

Fernanda Dantas, Internationalization Project Manager at the ABCC, noted that the mission is an opportunity for companies looking to export to Muslim-majority countries in Southeast Asia.“The purpose of the mission is for companies to have a first contact with this market, to get to know its potential up close before deciding to invest, and to be able to do so in a coordinated way with our support,” said Dantas.

She said the MIHAS fair is a business opportunity for companies that are already exporters and, above all, already have halal certification for their products, as halal is the focus of the event.“We observe that MIHAS is a halal fair. To be there, exhibitors need to have certified products and a slightly higher level of maturity to participate and hold meetings,” said Dantas, noting that the Halal do Brasil project participating for the third time demonstrates the consolidation of Brazil's presence in the Malaysian market.
