Türkiye's Inflation Posts Slight Decline in June

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s annual inflation rate showed a slight decline in June, registering 35.05%, down from 35.41% in May, according to official data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Thursday. The reading came in lower than analysts’ expectations, which had forecasted a 35.2% increase for the month.

This marks the smallest year-over-year rise in consumer prices in Türkiye since December 2021, when inflation was recorded at 36.08%.

Among the sectors with the steepest price hikes, education saw a sharp 73.33% increase, housing followed with a 65.54% jump, and healthcare surged by 38.7%, TurkStat’s report indicated. On the other hand, some categories experienced more modest rises, including clothing and footwear, which grew by 14.47%, communications at 18.43%, and recreation and culture, which rose by 27.53%.

The data further revealed that three primary expenditure groups—food and non-alcoholic beverages, transportation, and housing—accounted for the highest annual inflationary pressures. Food and non-alcoholic beverages posted a 30.2% inflation rate, while transportation surged by 27.72% and housing skyrocketed by 65.54%. These groups significantly influenced the overall inflationary change, with contributions of 7.60% from food and non-alcoholic beverages, 4.51% from transportation, and 9.22% from housing.

In monthly terms, inflation stood at 1.37% in June, a slight drop from May’s 1.53%, and below.
