(MENAFN) At least seven Palestinians lost their lives and numerous others were wounded on Monday as Israeli warplanes and artillery intensified attacks across various locations in the Gaza Strip, including zones sheltering displaced civilians.

The Israeli military has sharply increased its air and artillery bombardments targeting the southern and eastern sectors of Gaza City, focusing particularly on the Zeitoun, Shejaiya, and al-Tuffah neighborhoods.

According to local sources, the army launched air strikes on four schools providing refuge to displaced Palestinians after issuing evacuation orders. Three of these schools are clustered in the Zeitoun area, while the fourth is situated in al-Tuffah, east of Gaza City.

Medical officials at Al-Shifa Medical Complex reported receiving five bodies following a drone strike on a group of civilians in the Al-Shati refugee camp located west of Gaza City, as confirmed by media.

Al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza stated that one Palestinian was killed and 23 others injured when Israeli forces targeted civilians seeking medical aid on Salah al-Din Street, south of the Wadi Gaza region.

In addition, Israeli shelling struck tents in the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, killing one Palestinian and injuring several others, according to medical sources.

Despite mounting international demands for a ceasefire, Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of over 56,000 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.

Israel is also confronting a genocide lawsuit at the International Court of Justice related to its ongoing military campaign against the Gaza enclave.
