Trump gets selected for Nobel Peace Prize
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Congressman Earl “Buddy” Carter, who credited Trump with helping to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran after nearly two weeks of escalating conflict.
The nomination follows Trump’s announcement of a truce, which came shortly after the U.S. launched major airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Trump claimed the sites were “completely and totally obliterated,” though Iran denied any significant damage and maintained its commitment to its civilian nuclear program.
Following the ceasefire declaration, missile exchanges between Israel and Iran resumed briefly. Trump harshly criticized both nations for violating the truce, using explicit language to express his frustration. However, media reports suggest that Israel has since paused further military action.
In his letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee—shared by Trump on Truth Social—Congressman Carter praised the president’s “extraordinary and historic” efforts in securing the ceasefire, calling them “bold” and crucial in defusing a potentially larger war. Carter also credited Trump with taking decisive steps to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and said his actions reflect the values of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Last week, Pakistan also nominated Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for his role in helping de-escalate tensions between Pakistan and India following a deadly terror attack in Kashmir. However, India has denied that any external party mediated the situation.
