JMIC issues warning of risk of US-linked shipping in Red Sea
(MENAFN) The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) issued an urgent advisory on Sunday, raising the threat level to commercial shipping associated with the United States in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and Gulf of Aden to “high.” This warning comes amid increasing regional tensions following recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Tensions intensified after the US President announced that American forces had executed “very successful” strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran. The attacks involved B-2 stealth bombers dropping six bunker-buster bombs on the Fordo site and multiple submarine-launched cruise missiles targeting the Natanz and Isfahan facilities.
The JMIC advisory, aimed at informing maritime industry stakeholders, highlighted that the elevated threat is linked to explicit warnings from Yemen’s Houthi movement against US-affiliated maritime assets.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree declared that Houthi forces would target US commercial vessels and warships if Washington engages militarily alongside Israel against Iran.
“The Houthis, supported by Iran, have a documented history of targeting shipping in the Red Sea and have previously expressed intent to act against US and Israeli interests at sea,” the advisory noted.
