Mexican Leader phone call with Trump is "very good"

(MENAFN) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum described her recent phone conversation with US President Donald Trump as “very good,” following the unexpected cancellation of their planned meeting at the G7 summit in Canada, which Trump exited early.

Sheinbaum took to social media to explain that Trump had left the summit due to an unfolding emergency in the Middle East. "I had a very good telephone conversation with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who informed me that he left yesterday over an emergency due to the situation in the Middle East. We agreed to work together to reach an agreement soon on various issues that concern us," she wrote.

The White House echoed a similar sentiment, with a senior official referring to the exchange as “good,” reflecting a shared willingness to address bilateral challenges.

Relations between the neighboring nations have seen strain in recent years, primarily due to Washington’s hardline immigration policies under Trump, especially those affecting Mexican citizens and undocumented migrants.

In recent weeks, US authorities have sharply increased arrests of undocumented immigrants, contributing to rising tensions and public scrutiny over border management.

Despite these points of contention, both leaders signaled a desire to strengthen collaboration and find common ground on key issues in the near future.
