Afghan Refugee Families Flee Tehran Due To Israeli Attacks: Purple Saturdays
The“Purple Saturdays” movement, led by women's rights activist Maryam Marouf Arvin, has reported that Israeli airstrikes on Iran have forced dozens of migrant families to flee their homes in Tehran, seeking refuge in other areas.
According to a statement from the movement, most of these migrants are human rights activists, protesting women, and other vulnerable groups who fled Afghanistan due to Taliban threats. They now face severe challenges, with many unable to return to Afghanistan.
The movement emphasized that these displaced families are living in dire humanitarian and security conditions. The majority of them lack access to basic necessities such as clean drinking water, food, and adequate shelter.
In its statement,“Purple Saturdays” has urgently called on international organizations, especially the UN mission in Iran and human rights defenders, to address the migrants' situation. It demands immediate action to ensure their safety, shelter, and access to essential services.
Additionally, the movement highlighted that targeting civilians constitutes a war crime under international humanitarian law. It urges the global community to take immediate steps to protect Afghan migrants and refugees in Iran.
As the Israel-Iran conflict enters its fifth day, Israel's military recently confirmed the targeting of Iran's newly appointed joint chiefs of staff. In response, Iran has intensified its missile attacks on Israel, resulting in multiple casualties.
The situation for Afghan migrants in Iran continues to deteriorate amid the ongoing conflict. Urgent international intervention is needed to safeguard their rights and well-being. The global community must unite to prevent further humanitarian crises.
