Designatronics Expands QTC METRIC GEARS Product Line With Induction-Hardened Miter Gears

Two series of miter gears are now available with induction hardening: Straight Miter Gear Series (KSM) : Modules 1 through 8, bore sizes 6–30 mm and Angular Miter Gear Series (KSAM) : Modules 1.5 through 3, bore sizes 8–16 mm. Gears that include induction hardening are denoted by an "H" suffix in the part number. This added option is available as a value-added service to standard part numbers upon request.

"Induction hardening offers significant performance benefits, including improved wear resistance, enhanced fatigue strength, and increased surface hardness. The localized heating process also minimizes distortion," said Simon Brazier, Sales & Marketing Director at Designatronics. The induction hardening process is applied to the gear tooth surfaces, achieving a surface hardness of HRC50 to 60 and is completed within four working days. Secondary machining operations are possible on areas not affected by the heat treatment process.
