(MENAFN) Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday stressed the critical need to reduce tensions in the occupied West Bank and put an immediate stop to unlawful Israeli actions that threaten the viability of a two-state solution.

Safadi expressed these concerns during a phone conversation with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing ongoing regional issues, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry reported.

Both ministers underlined the significance of boosting collaboration between Jordan and Australia in multiple sectors to benefit the mutual interests of their nations and citizens.

They reviewed the latest regional developments, with Safadi emphasizing the necessity for coordinated international efforts to halt Israeli attacks on Gaza, secure a durable and all-encompassing ceasefire, negotiate a prisoner swap, and guarantee continuous humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip.

Additionally, Safadi condemned violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem, demanding an immediate cessation.

The discussion also covered preparations for the forthcoming international peace conference in New York, co-led by Saudi Arabia and France, with both sides agreeing to sustain coordination on their common priorities.
