Zuckerberg Builds Elite AI “Superintelligence” Team
(MENAFN) Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is aggressively building a premier team of AI specialists aimed at creating “superintelligence,” an advanced AI system that surpasses human performance.
Frustrated with Meta’s current AI development pace, Zuckerberg has invited top AI researchers to his homes in Lake Tahoe and Palo Alto as part of a concentrated push to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI)—machines that match human-level abilities across diverse tasks, media reported Tuesday.
The report highlights Zuckerberg’s intense focus on recruiting a covert “superintelligence” unit to position Meta as the front-runner in the race for AGI, outpacing rival tech giants. Zuckerberg is set to personally hire nearly 50 experts for this ambitious team, including a lead for AI research, and has reorganized workspace at Meta’s Menlo Park campus to keep the group in close proximity.
Alongside building this powerhouse, Zuckerberg is preparing a multibillion-dollar investment in Scale AI, a firm specializing in data services and tailored AI solutions. Alexandr Wang, Scale AI’s founder, is expected to join Meta’s superintelligence team following the deal closure, marking Meta’s largest external investment so far, media notes.
Meta recently unveiled a free standalone AI app powered by its Llama 4 model, positioning it as a cost-effective rival to ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Gemini despite some early challenges. While Meta has integrated AI into Facebook, WhatsApp, Ray-Ban smart glasses, and chatbots, the company continues to trail OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the fast-evolving AI landscape.
