Spanish Authors Call for Immediate End to Genocide in Gaza

(MENAFN) More than 400 Spanish professionals specializing in children’s and young adult literature have urgently called for an immediate stop to Israel’s "indiscriminate" military assaults on Gaza.

In a manifesto circulated via social media, the writers appealed, "We make an urgent call to the international community to push for an immediate end to these indiscriminate attacks and to halt the trade of military equipment being used against the civilian population."

Highlighting Israel’s persistent violations of international law, including bombing civilian areas and blocking humanitarian aid from reaching Gaza, the authors stressed the necessity of holding Israel accountable for the deaths of civilians and ensuring these "cruel acts" never happen again worldwide.

"There are no excuses. Children are not combatants," the writers emphasized, adding: " This is not the world we imagine. This is not the world we want."

Despite widespread calls for a ceasefire, Israel has maintained a brutal campaign in Gaza since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of nearly 54,500 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. Aid organizations have raised alarms over the looming threat of famine affecting Gaza’s population exceeding 2 million people.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Furthermore, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its alleged war crimes targeting civilians in the Gaza Strip.
