Elon Musk Announces Exit From US Government Role

WASHINGTON, May 29 (KUNA) -- Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced the conclusion of his tenure with the US government, where he served as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)
DOGE, established by President Donald Trump at the beginning of his second term, aimed to streamline federal spending and reduce the size of the government workforce.
Musk made the announcement via a post on the social media platform X on Wednesday, and did not specify whether his departure was a resignation, a dismissal, or consensual termination of employment, however, the White House had previously stated that Musk's role was intended to be temporary.
"As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending," Musk wrote.
The billionaire expressed optimism that DOGE would continue to thrive, predicting that its mission "will strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."
President Trump established DOGE upon assuming office on January 20, with the goal of promoting accountability and transparency in federal spending and ensuring that taxpayer money is used wisely and effectively.
The White House has stated that the Trump administration is conducting thorough investigations into programs from the Biden era, which it claims wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on ineffective or politically motivated projects.
These efforts include terminating unnecessary government contracts and eliminating grants deemed not to serve the national interest.
DOGE has sparked significant controversy across the US, particularly regarding its access to federal employees' personal data and the mass layoffs that have followed.
Musk, in particular, has become the most controversial government figure in the country as a result of his role.
