Turkish Pres. Slams Israeli Occupation Of Syrian Territories


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, May 24 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced as totally unacceptable the Israeli occupation of, and aggression on, the territories of neighborly Syria.
During his meeting with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa at Dolmabahce Presidential Palace in Istanbul on Saturday, Erdogan said vowed that Ankara would "continue to oppose these actions on every platform."
Both leaders discussed the bilateral relations, as well as regional and global developments, according to a statement from Turkiye's Directorate of Communications.
President Erdogan expressed his belief that much brighter and more peaceful days await Syria and reaffirmed that Turkiye will continue to stand by Syria in the future.
Welcoming Al-Sharaa on his first visit to Turkiye in the wake of US and EU decisions to lift sanctions on Syria, President Erdogan expressed Turkiye's satisfaction with those initial steps and underscored the importance of preserving Syria's territorial integrity and ensuring unified governance of the country and its armed forces from a central authority.
He stated that cooperation between Turkiye and Syria will continue to develop in all fields, particularly in energy, defense, and transportation, and that Tأ1⁄4rkiye will continue to fulfill the requirements of neighborly and brotherly relations, as it has always done.
On his part, President Al-Sharaa thanked his host for his critical support and efforts in the process of lifting the sanctions.
Also attending the meeting, were Turkiye's Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler, Head of National Intelligence Organisation Ibrahim Kalin, President of the Defence Industry Agency Haluk Gorgun, Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Cagatay Kilic, and Chief Advisor to the President Sefer Turan.
