Canada, Norway Forge Cooperation across Various Sectors

(MENAFN) In a recent phone call, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Norwegian Premier Jonas Gahr Støre discussed bolstering cooperation across various sectors, including trade, defense, and Arctic security. A statement from Canada indicated the conversation took place on Friday.

Premier Støre congratulated Prime Minister Carney on his recent election win. Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to enhancing commercial and strategic partnerships, particularly across the transatlantic and Arctic regions. They also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of achieving a just and lasting peace amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia.

"The prime ministers agreed to remain in close contact," the statement concluded.

This diplomatic exchange with Norway is among Prime Minister Carney's first since taking office in March. Norway, a NATO member with substantial Arctic territory, has been a vital partner in regional security cooperation, especially since Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine in 2022.
