EU Commissioner: Respecting Int. Law Is An Absolute Necessity

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSEL, May 19 (KUNA) - European Union Crisis Management Commissioner Hadja Lahbib stressed on Monday that respect for international humanitarian law is no longer a luxury, but an absolute necessity that all parties must uphold.
This statement was made during the opening session of the 4th European Humanitarian Forum 2025 (EHF) in Brussels. The forum comes at a critical time, as humanitarian principles face unprecedented challenges, Lahbib said.
She called on the EU Commission and its international partners, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), to uphold and defend the core values of humanitarian work.
She also warned against the politicization and militarization of humanitarian aid, stressing the importance of not supporting any actions that violate humanitarian principles.
The forum includes representatives from all humanitarian organizations and EU member states, who are participating in strategic discussions and proposing sustainable solutions to humanitarian challenges. (end)
