Norway, Poland Formalize New Agreement

(MENAFN) Norway and Poland have formalized a new agreement on Wednesday under the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants to promote economic and social progress in Poland while strengthening bilateral ties, according to a press release from the Norwegian government.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and Poland’s Minister for Regional Development and Fund Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz signed the deal in Warsaw, Poland.

This agreement launches a new funding cycle designed to reduce social and economic inequalities across Europe and foster closer cooperation between donor and recipient countries.

For the 2021-2028 period, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein will allocate 3.268 billion euros (approximately 3.73 billion U.S. dollars) to assist the 15 least developed EU nations. Norway will contribute nearly 97 percent of the funding from the three EEA countries.

“This is the first and largest agreement for this funding period,” Eide stated, emphasizing Poland's central role as the largest beneficiary of funds in this cycle.

Twelve Norwegian agencies will collaborate with Polish institutions to carry out projects in sectors such as energy, research, green transition, and the rule of law.
