Biden claims Trump backers have no hearts
(MENAFN) Former U.S. President Joe Biden has taken aim at supporters of Donald Trump, claiming they "have no hearts" and warning that the country is more divided than ever. His comments came during his first public speech since leaving office, where he also criticized the impact of Trump’s administration on federal programs.
Speaking on Tuesday, Biden accused Trump of severely damaging Social Security by eliminating around 7,000 employees, including experienced officials. He claimed further cuts are imminent, calling the actions “breathtaking.”
Biden also targeted a segment of Trump’s base, referencing a Reuters/Ipsos poll that found roughly 30% of respondents supported Trump’s approach to tackling inflation. “Granted, it’s just 30%, but it’s a 30% that has no heart,” Biden remarked, suggesting that Trump’s followers lacked compassion.
While Trump’s approval rating has recently dipped to 43%—his lowest since returning to office in January—the figure still exceeds his average during his first term, Reuters noted.
Biden’s remarks sparked backlash from conservatives, who accused him of worsening national divisions. Critics also highlighted Democratic policies as a contributing factor to the current polarization in the U.S.
In response, Trump’s Social Security team issued a rebuttal on X (formerly Twitter), accusing Biden of spreading falsehoods. They defended Trump’s record, citing his pledges to protect Social Security and eliminate taxes on benefits to increase seniors’ take-home pay.
Meanwhile, reports from NBC News suggest Biden is attempting a political comeback to support struggling Democratic candidates, although enthusiasm for his return appears limited. Citing concerns over his age—82—and his abrupt withdrawal from the 2024 race, some Democratic donors and activists are hesitant.
“Who’s going to want Joe Biden back in the game?” one prominent supporter reportedly told NBC.
