Greece Agrees to Buy French-Made Exocet Missiles

(MENAFN) Greece has agreed to acquire 16 Exocet anti-ship missiles from France, as disclosed by local news sources on Monday.

This procurement agreement was finalized in Athens during a diplomatic encounter between the visiting French Defense Minister, Sebastien Lecornu, and his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, based on a national broadcaster.

Highlighting the persistent security challenges Greece encounters, Dendias insisted that the nation must consistently maintain a strategic edge over competing countries.

He once more voiced his objection to any defense collaboration involving Turkey and the European Union.

Lecornu, in turn, underlined France’s strategic interest in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

He indicated that Paris is open to constructing more FDI-class frigates tailored for the Greek naval forces.

France has recently become one of Greece's principal military equipment providers, having already supplied Rafale fighter jets and FDI-class frigates as part of broader defense cooperation efforts.

Greece has had experience operating older models of Exocet missiles for many years.

Manufactured by the French defense firm MBDA, the missile is celebrated for its accuracy and low-altitude flight over the sea. It is specifically engineered to eliminate mid-sized naval vessels.
