Putin declares Russian naval enlargement

(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin has unveiled plans to expand Russia’s naval capabilities, emphasizing its critical role in the country's security and global strategic balance. Speaking in Murmansk on Thursday during a visit to the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine, a Yasen-M class vessel equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles, Putin outlined his vision for the Navy’s future development.

He announced that by 2050, Russia plans to build five additional Yasen-M class submarines, three more Borei-A class submarines, and several surface ships. Putin highlighted the significance of these developments for maintaining Russia's naval strength, stressing the importance of having modern, combat-ready vessels capable of serving the country’s strategic security for decades to come.

Putin also praised the Arkhangelsk submarine, noting that it is a state-of-the-art vessel and one of the most advanced in the Russian fleet. He emphasized the strategic value of the Zircon missiles it carries, which he described as precise, fast, and capable of fulfilling a wide range of military objectives. He further emphasized the importance of continuous improvements in the Navy's capabilities to meet both modern and future requirements.

The Russian president acknowledged the dedicated and skilled naval personnel, noting the special character required for such service and the strong traditions of the Russian Navy. He expressed his confidence in the crew's readiness to carry out vital national security missions, congratulating them on their service aboard the newest missile-carrying submarines.

Putin also celebrated the recent launch of another submarine of the same class, the Perm, which marks another step in Russia’s growing naval strength.
