Amman, April 6 (Petra) -- A warm air mass accompanied by a surface thermal low is driving up temperatures across Jordan, with the Meteorological Department forecasting above-average warmth and dusty conditions in several areas through midweek.
According to the department's daily report, temperatures on Sunday are expected to exceed seasonal averages by 6 to 7 C. Most regions will experience warm weather, while conditions will be hot in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
Clouds at medium and high altitudes are expected to develop gradually, and southeasterly winds will become active at times, raising dust and reducing horizontal visibility.
The department warned of potential visibility issues caused by blowing dust, particularly along highways, where conditions may lead to near-zero visibility in some areas.
A slight drop in temperatures is expected on Monday, though weather conditions will remain relatively warm in most parts of the country and hot in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
Moderate southwesterly winds will become active at intervals, stirring dust especially in desert areas. Some cloud cover at medium and high altitudes is also forecast.
On Tuesday, Jordan will be affected by a khamasini weather system, causing temperatures to rise further, 8 to 9 C above normal for this time of year. The weather will be dry, dusty, and warm in most areas, and hot in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Moderate to active southwesterly winds are expected to continue, contributing to dust in several regions.
By Wednesday, a significant drop in temperatures is forecast, bringing conditions back to seasonal norms. The weather will be moderate in most regions and relatively hot in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
Northwesterly winds will become active and are expected to raise dust, particularly in desert areas. Mid- and high-level clouds will also appear throughout the day.
Forecasted temperatures for Sunday show highs and lows ranging between 29 C and 19 C in East Amman, and 27 C and 17 C in West Amman. In the northern highlands, temperatures are expected to range from 25 C during the day to 15 C at night, while the Sharah highlands will see a similar pattern with highs of 26 C and lows of 14 C.
Desert areas are forecast to reach 33 C during the day and drop to 18 C overnight. The plains will see temperatures between 29 C and 19 C. In the Jordan Valley, the northern region will experience highs of 35 C and lows of 24 C, while the southern region will be hotter, with temperatures ranging between 37 C and 26 C.
The Dead Sea is expected to record 36 C during the day and 26 C at night, and the Gulf of Aqaba will see similar conditions, with highs of 37 C and lows of 25 C.
