Egyptian President Discusses Gaza War with Macron

(MENAFN) Egyptian Leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held a phone conversation with French Leader Emmanuel Macron on Saturday to address the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip and Cairo's efforts to facilitate a ceasefire.

The discussion focused on the latest developments in the region and the steps Egypt is taking to mediate a halt to the violence.

As per an official statement from the Egyptian Presidency, the two presidents emphasized “the importance of restoring calm through an immediate ceasefire and the provision of humanitarian aid.”

They highlighted the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and the critical need for providing assistance to those affected by the conflict.

The conversation also included discussions on the two-state solution, with both leaders agreeing that it remains “the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace in the region.”

They reaffirmed their commitment to finding a resolution that ensures a stable and peaceful future.

Additionally, the leaders touched on the diplomatic relations between Egypt and France, exploring opportunities to strengthen bilateral ties.

This comes ahead of President Macron’s planned visit to Egypt, where they may discuss further cooperation between the two nations.

The possibility of a three-way summit involving Egypt, France, as well as Jordan was also mentioned. While no specific details were provided, the summit could be held during Macron's visit to Cairo.

The humanitarian toll of the conflict has been devastating, with over 50,600 Palestinians reported killed in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of violence in October 2023, most of whom are women and children.

In response to the ongoing atrocities, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants the previous November for Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
