Putin releases Arctic caution to NATO

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning to NATO, accusing the US-led bloc of viewing the Arctic as a potential “bridgehead” for future conflicts. Speaking at the International Arctic Forum in Murmansk, Putin expressed concern over NATO's increasing activities in the region, including training troops and integrating recruits from Finland and Sweden. He stated that Russia would take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and sovereignty in the Arctic.

Putin emphasized that Russia has been monitoring NATO's actions closely and would respond by enhancing its military capabilities in the region, including expanding its Arctic forces and modernizing military infrastructure. While reaffirming that Russia has never threatened anyone in the Arctic, he made it clear that Russia would defend its sovereignty from any encroachment.

The Russian president underscored that maintaining peace and stability in the Arctic is essential for long-term development, improving the quality of life for residents, and preserving the region’s unique environment. He also highlighted that a strong Russian presence would open up opportunities for international collaboration, including with Western nations, should they be willing to engage in joint projects.
