Alibaba unveils new multimodal AI model for everyday devices
(MENAFN) Alibaba Group Holding has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence offering, a multimodal model capable of processing various forms of data including text, images, audio, and video on smartphones and laptops, media source reported.
The tech giant introduced Qwen2.5-Omni-7B on Thursday, the newest addition to its Qwen model family, as it aims to bolster its standing in the rapidly evolving generative AI sector. This new model, Qwen2.5-Omni-7B, is designed to bring sophisticated AI functionalities closer to regular users.
According to a statement from Alibaba, the model can handle diverse types of input and generate immediate responses in either text or audio formats. The company has also announced that the model will be made available as open-source software.
Alibaba highlighted potential applications of the technology, such as providing real-time audio descriptions for individuals with visual impairments and offering step-by-step cooking guidance by analyzing ingredients.
The model's ability to handle multiple data types underscores the growing demand for AI systems that can do more than just generate text.
Alibaba's foundational Qwen models have gained popularity among AI developers as a base for their own applications, positioning the company as a significant alternative to China's DeepSeek V3 and R1 models.
