NATO Corrects Reports Regarding Missing U.S. Soldiers

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, NATO sought to clarify comments made by the secretary-general regarding the missing US soldiers in Lithuania, stating that their deaths have not been officially reported.

“We regret any confusion about remarks Secretary-General Mark Rutte delivered on this today. He was referring to emerging news reports & was not confirming the fate of the missing, which is still unknown,” NATO spokesperson Allison Hart shared on X.

She further emphasized that the search for the missing soldiers is still ongoing.

On Tuesday, four US Army soldiers had gone missing while doing a standard military training in Lithuania, a Baltic country.

A multinational search operation is actively being conducted in the eastern town of Pabrade, close to the capital Vilnius, as reported by the US Army Europe and Africa command’s public affairs office.

The soldiers' vehicle was later discovered submerged in water, based on a statement from the US Army on Wednesday.

US forces regularly take part in in shared military drills with NATO partners in Lithuania, a small nation with a population of approximately 1.9 million, located between Russia and the Baltic Sea.
