EU Commissioner Expresses Concern Over Attacks on Hospital Workers in Gaza
(MENAFN) The European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, voiced her worry on Tuesday regarding “alarming reports” about Israeli strikes targeting health staff members, hospitals, as well as aid employees in Gaza.
Lahbib expressed her worry in a statement, highlighting the disturbing incidents where health workers, ambulances, and medical facilities have once again come under Israeli assault.
She emphasized that these actions undermine the vital and courageous work of aid workers who are striving to save lives amid ongoing hostilities.
“Humanitarian aid efforts must continue to help people in desperate need. International Humanitarian Law must be respected by all,” Lahbib asserted, stressing the need for continued humanitarian support and adherence to international law.
She also aligned herself with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, in urging respect for all civilians and humanitarian workers.
“We need to ensure the protection of all civilians, including humanitarian workers and their premises at all times, as well as civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, schools, and UN premises,” she concluded.
