Pentagon Deletes DEI Content from Websites
(MENAFN) U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has directed the removal of all content relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) from Pentagon websites, as reported by several military sources on Thursday.
As per a news agency report, the directive was extensive, with defense units instructed to perform keyword searches using terms like “racism,” “ethnicity,” “history,” and “first” to locate articles and images for removal.
Officials were also told to enforce this order across the board.
The list of targeted terms included references to important historical milestones, including the first female ranger and the first Black commanding general.
Other flagged terms, based on a list reviewed by a news agency, comprised words like “LGBTQ,” “historic,” “accessibility,” “opportunity,” “belonging,” “justice,” “privilege,” “respect,” and “values.”
Pentagon representative Sean Parnell described the task in a video posted on X on Thursday as an “arduous – but incredibly important – undertaking” with an “aggressive timeline.”
“Every now and then, because of the realities of AI tools and other software, some important content was incorrectly pulled offline to be reviewed,” Parnell explained.
