US stands at 24th in 2025 World Happiness Report

(MENAFN) The United States has experienced a significant decline in its global happiness standing, reaching a record low of 24th place in the 2025 World Happiness Report, as disclosed by Gallup and its collaborators on Wednesday.

This annual assessment, which evaluates 147 nations using surveys conducted from 2022 to 2024, analyzes individuals' self-reported life satisfaction and underscores the crucial role of social connections, trust, and community cohesion in overall well-being.

Finland maintained its position as the world's happiest nation for the eighth successive year, with Mexico and Costa Rica achieving a milestone by entering the top 10 for the first time since the report's inception in 2012.

Analysts attribute the US's downward trajectory to increasing social isolation and political division.

Data within the report revealed that solitary dining has become more prevalent in the U.S., with a quarter of Americans eating every meal alone in 2023. This increase, compared to 2003, is a cause for concern as communal meals are associated with improved well-being.

The study further found that in the US and parts of Europe, the rise in anti-establishment voting coincided with decreases in both happiness and trust.
