Kuwait Football Team Draws 2-2 With Iraq In World Cup Qualifiers

BAGHDAD, Mar 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait national football team drew 2-2 with their Iraqi counterpart in a match held in southern Iraqi city of Al-Basra on Thursday, as part of the seventh round of the third stage of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The Kuwaiti side entered the match inspired by their recent performance in the Khaleeji Zain 26, where they highlighted a strong defensive strategy while creating scoring opportunities, Yousef Nasser put Kuwait ahead with a goal in the 39th minute.
The second half saw Kuwait maintain a solid defensive effort, with Nasser scoring again in the 70th minute to extend their lead to 2-0.
In the dying moments of the match, player Akam Hashim managed to score Iraq's first goal in the third minute of stoppage time.
Eight minutes later, player Ibrahim Bayesh scored Iraq's second goal, securing a valuable point for his team.
With this result, the Kuwaiti team increased their points in Group B to five, while the Iraqi team reached 12 points.
