Hospital stuck throughout Ukrainian drone assault deep inside Russia

(MENAFN) A hospital in Engels, Russia, was damaged during Ukraine’s largest drone attack on the region, local officials reported Thursday. The strike also targeted the nearby regional capital, Saratov.

Saratov Governor Roman Busargin shared images on Telegram, showing shattered hospital windows and confirming that an oxygen pipeline was ruptured. A woman was injured, and emergency patients were redirected to other facilities. Busargin assured that overall medical services would not be disrupted.

Engels and Saratov, located over 600km from Ukrainian-controlled territory, lie along the Volga River. Engels is also home to a strategic Russian military airfield.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 132 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight, including:

•54 over Saratov Region

•40 over Voronezh Region

•22 over Belgorod Region

•Additional drones in other areas

The attack took place as negotiations for a partial ceasefire are ongoing. The proposed agreement, backed by US President Donald Trump, seeks to halt long-range strikes on energy infrastructure from both Russia and Ukraine, paving the way for broader peace discussions.
