Polish presidential candidate ruins LGBTQ demonstration
(MENAFN) Grzegorz Braun, a Polish presidential candidate and member of the European Parliament, has sparked controversy by vandalizing an LGBTQ exhibition in the city of Opole. On Tuesday, Braun used black spray paint to write "Stop pervert propaganda" on panels showcasing LGBTQ-related content, including images from local pride marches and personal stories from gay residents. The exhibition was part of a campaign titled ‘There’s more of us! Provoke equality with us’ organized by the Teczowe Opole (Rainbow Opole) association.
Police documented the incident but did not intervene, informing Braun of the potential legal repercussions for property damage. The organizers of the exhibition are reportedly considering legal action and may seek compensation for the vandalism.
Braun, known for his far-right views, opposes Poland's EU integration, feminism, and LGBTQ rights. He has also criticized Poland's support for Ukraine and former U.S. President Joe Biden's administration. In January, Braun was banned from the European Parliament for six months after disrupting a Holocaust remembrance ceremony, shouting controversial remarks about the Gaza conflict.
Braun is running in Poland’s presidential election set for May 18, though current opinion polls show his support at under 2%.
