White House Reveals Details Of Conversation Between Trump And Zelensky


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Presidents of Ukraine and the U.S. discussed a ceasefire, Trump's conversation with Putin, the situation in Kursk region, planned meetings of technical groups, and the exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine. trump also proposed that Ukraine transfer ownership of its power plants to the U.S. to better protect them.

This was stated in a joint declaration by U.S. National Security Adviser Watltz and the Secretary of State Rubio, which was read by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt in Washington on Wednesday, as reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.

“Today, President Donald J. Trump and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky had a fantastic phone conversation,” Leavitt read the beginning of the statement.

She noted that Zelensky thanked Trump for a for a productive start for the work of the Ukrainian and American teams in Jeddah on March 11, which significantly“helped in moving toward ending the war.” Additionally, it was mentioned that the Ukrainian President expressed gratitude for the support of the United States, especially the Javelin missiles that President Trump was first to provide, and his efforts towards peace.

“The leaders agreed Ukraine and America will continue working together to bring about a real end to the war, and that lasting peace under President Trump's leadership can be achieved,” Leavitt stated.

President Trump, for his part, briefed President Zelensky on his conversation with Putin and the key issues they discussed.

“They reviewed the situation in Kursk and agreed to share information closely between their defense staffs as the battlefield situation evolved,” the White House Press Secretary noted.

Leavitt also reported that Volodymyr Zelensky requested additional air defense systems, including Patriot systems, to protect civilian infrastructure and people in Ukraine. President Trump“agreed to work with him to find what was available particularly in Europe.”

The two leaders also discussed a partial ceasefire at energy facilities. The White House Spokesperson mentioned that next week, technical groups will begin working, meeting in Saudi Arabia. They will focus on discussions regarding a ceasefire in the Black Sea as part of broader efforts toward a full ceasefire.

“President Zelenskyy was grateful for the President's leadership in this effort and reiterated his willingness to adopt a full ceasefire,” Leavitt stated.

The U.S. and Ukrainian leaders also discussed ensuring Ukraine's energy supply and its nuclear power plants.

“He (President Trump) said that the United States could be very helpful in running those plants with its electricity and utility expertise. American ownership of those plants would be the best protection for that infrastructure and support for Ukrainian energy infrastructure,” Leavitt informed.

Zelensky also thanked Trump for continuing to support humanitarian issues, including the exchange of prisoners of war. The Ukrainian leader reported on a recent exchange and expressed gratitude to Trump for his leadership, Leavitt noted.

She also stated that Trump asked Zelensky about children missing in Ukraine during the war, including those who were abducted.

“President Trump promised to work closely with both parties to help make sure those children were returned home,” the White House representative stressed.

Both leaders agreed to continue efforts to make the full ceasefire effective and pledged that their teams would work to implement it as soon as possible.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Wednesday, the White House announced that U.S. President Donald Trump intends to end the war in Ukraine once and for all.
