Boat overturns in India, fatalities included
(MENAFN) More than seven individuals, four of whom are children, were reported dead after a boat overturned in MataTila Dam in Madhya Pradesh, India, Police reported on Wednesday. However, eight survivors were able to exit the dam safely.
The boat, transferring 15 individuals, overturned on late Tuesday in the Shivpuri district, located around 281 km north of Bhopal, the state capital. The victims were reportedly traveling to visit a temple on an island within the dam.
A senior police official, Aman Singh Rathore, confirmed: "Last evening a boat carrying 15 people capsized in the backwaters of Matatila Dam. There is an ancient Siddh Baba temple on an island inside the dam and the local villagers were going there. In the boat capsize seven people -- three women and four children -- are missing." Meanwhile "Eight people managed to come out of the dam safely," he added.
