Somali Present Pledges To Arm Regulars With All Needs

CAIRO, March 19 (KUNA) -- Somali President Hassan sheikh Mahmud on Wednesday pledged to supply the armed forces with all military and logistical means to continue the armed operations against terrorism.
The Somali news agency said the president made the pledge during a visit to the State of Hirshabelle, where he met with army officers, assuring them that the state would provide full support for the soldiers positioned on the frontlines. He also urged the forces to liberate occupied territories.
Lauding the troops' courage, the president indicated that the regular forces have continued hammering "the extremists' hideouts and making recurring victories on the battlefields."
The president had visited other fronts as part of his efforts to boost the regulars' morale and step up the fight against terrorism.
Late on Tuesday, his motorcade survived a bomb attack, claimed by the rebel group Al-Shabaab, in the Somali capital. (end)
