Sudanese Military Tightens Blockade on Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum

(MENAFN) On Monday, the Sudanese military forces escalated its siege of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) at the presidential palace in Khartoum. This move followed an announcement that its forces at the general command headquarters had successfully merged with the armored corps south of the capital. This marks the first such unification since the outbreak of the war in April 2023.

Military representative Nabil Abdullah confirmed the development, stating, "Today, the armored forces joined the brave defenders at the General Command after clearing the Al-Shaab Teaching Hospital of RSF militia." His brief statement highlighted the army's progress in pushing back the RSF forces.

This advance enabled the military to take control of all southern access points into central Khartoum, putting it in a strong position to continue its push eastward and southward.

The army aims to fully secure the capital while further tightening the blockade on the RSF forces that continue to hold the presidential palace and the surrounding area.

Since the conflict's onset, the RSF had imposed a stringent blockade on the armored corps, a crucial military base in Khartoum, which disrupted supply lines. However, this situation began to shift when the army initiated offensive actions in the capital in September 2024.

With its recent gains in central Khartoum, the military is currently encircling the RSF, which still controls the presidential palace and key government buildings in downtown Khartoum, from all sides.
