Australian central bank reveals fresh banknote design
(MENAFN) The Reserve bank of Australia (RBA) has unveiled the theme for its upcoming five-dollar banknote, which will honor the First Nations peoples' strong connection to the land, substituting the monarch's image.
The theme was chosen from more than 2,100 public submissions and after consultations with First Nations organizations. According to an RBA statement released Monday, "which will honor the enduring emotional, spiritual, and physical connection of First Nations peoples to Country."
RBA Assistant Governor Michelle McPhee highlighted that the design would celebrate the bond between Indigenous peoples and their environment, including land, waters, and sky. This redesigned banknote will be the first not to feature a monarch, as reported by a news agency.
The RBA emphasized: "The artwork should avoid being tokenistic or stereotypical. The tone for the banknote is of a hopeful future, where First Nation peoples' connection to Country is celebrated and respected."
