Avian influenza triggers high alert in Bihar, India

(MENAFN) On Friday, in response to an epidemic of bird flu (H5N1) in several regions, officials in Bihar have issued a high alert, as reported by local representatives.

The affected areas include Patna, Bhagalpur, Nawada, and Jehanabad.

As of the epidemic, animal disease control teams have conducted slaughtering of chickens across numerous poultry farms.  Samples gathered from these sites were sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal, which confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus.

To prevent more expansion of the disease, the affected zones have been thoroughly disinfected, and policies aimed at controlling the spread are being actively implemented, according to reports.

The government has implemented a comprehensive restriction on the trade of poultry and related products in the contaminated regions.

As part of efforts to curb the spread of the virus, authorities have instructed the education department to stop the distribution of eggs in public schools as part of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme.
