Saudi Arabia boasts the largest economy in the Arab world, with a population of 33.2 million people and a gross domestic product of USD 1.1 trillion. While presenting these figures in the webinar, ABCC Market Intelligence Manager Marcus Vinicius mentioned that the halal market is predominant in the country, as Muslims make up almost the entire population.
Marcus Vinicius said that despite Saudi Arabia's efforts to locally develop food production, imports remain substantial.“The halal food sector in Saudi Arabia generates USD 5 billion annually. Saudi Arabia is a major food importer,” he said, highlighting an 18% increase in the sector's imports over the past three years. Leading imported foods in Saudi Arabia are rice, chicken meat, wheat, food ingredients, sugar, corn, cheese and cream cheese, cakes, cookies and pasta, milk and cream, and malt.

The webinar was opened by the Director of Institutional Relations at the ABCC, Fernanda Baltazar, and the Coordinator of Agribusiness at ApexBrasil, Paula Soares, who encouraged companies to participate in the mission. The Head of ApexBrasil's International Office in Dubai, Tatiana Riera, also spoke at the online event, giving a presentation on the agency's work and how it can assist Brazilian companies in entering the international market.
