Trump Expresses Desire to Tariff Deal if U.S. Gets Something in Return
(MENAFN) United States Leader Donald Trump stated on Friday that he is willing to negotiate on auto tariffs and reciprocal tariffs in case the United States receives benefits in exchange.
Speaking to the press aboard Air Force One, Trump responded to a question about a conversation with Canadian Premier Mark Carney. "I always loved Canada. We had a very good conversation," he remarked.
He pointed out that Canada's election is approaching, and he plans to meet with Carney after the election.
Trump also mentioned that the US would soon impose tariffs on medicine, stressing the importance of bringing pharmaceutical production back to the country.
Emphasizing that the US never wants to depend on other nations for critical goods, as seen during the coronavirus pandemic, Trump affirmed that tariffs would be set at a level that would motivate pharmaceutical firms to move their production back to America.
When asked about potential tariffs on automobiles and reciprocal tariffs, Trump responded, “They want to make a deal. It is possible if we can get something for the deal. But you know, they've been taking advantage of us for 40 years, maybe more, and it is not going to happen anymore. But I am certainly open to it."
