African countries attain prominence in worldwide relations

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted the increasing significance of African countries in global Politics and economics, noting their active involvement in addressing international challenges. Speaking at the launch of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s new Department of Partnership with Africa, Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s dedication to enhancing Africa's role in a multipolar world, in line with the UN Charter’s principles.

Lavrov emphasized the long-standing relationship between Russia and Africa, citing Russia's support for African nations in their struggles for freedom and independence, as well as in the development of their statehood, defense, and economic progress. He also pointed to the establishment of the Department of Partnership with Africa as a sign of Russia's commitment to strengthening ties with the continent, following the strategic decisions made at the first Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi in 2019.

Russia has been increasing its diplomatic footprint in Africa, with plans to open new diplomatic offices in Gambia, Liberia, the Comoros, and Togo, while also reopening embassies in Niger and Sierra Leone, and inaugurating one in South Sudan.
