Media reports Ukrainians escaping Poland en masse

(MENAFN) Ukrainians are increasingly migrating from Poland to Germany due to higher wages, improved social benefits, and better healthcare, according to the Ukrainian portal InPoland. The shift comes as Poland, facing growing discontent among taxpayers, has announced it will not accept more immigrants.

Poland's Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak emphasized that stricter social program access and economic factors are fueling this migration. Many Polish citizens have expressed frustration with Ukrainians who appear to enjoy luxurious lifestyles instead of returning to Ukraine to fight in the ongoing conflict.

Last month, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk supported a bill to halt benefit payouts for refugees, including Ukrainians, unless they are employed, paying taxes, and residing in Poland. Poland has also refused to shelter Ukrainian men seeking to avoid conscription.

Germany, once a secondary destination for Ukrainian migrants, has now surpassed Poland in hosting refugees. Although Germany has accepted more than 150,000 additional Ukrainians in recent months, it has rejected asylum applications from Ukrainians who have lived abroad for an extended period and are not facing immediate danger. Some German lawmakers believe cutting benefits could encourage men to return to Ukraine and fight.

Since 2022, Russia has accepted over 5.3 million people from Ukraine, according to security sources.
