American Citizens Now Attempting To Secure A Panamanian Citizenship

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) Panama may no longer be allowing Americans citizens to naturalize due to a specific documentation issue provided by the US Embassy. Panama for 30 years or more has not bothered with this; however as of a few weeks ago they now require all pages of your American passport to be certified for Panamanian citizenship. The US embassy could help by complying with Panamanian law and issuing a“Certified True Copy” of passports with all pages attached however the US Embassy will only certify the signature page. Something like this may change in the future once this issue receives more publicity.

Some lawyers were told directly by the head of naturalization and the head of judicial in Panama, a few weeks ago, that Panama migration decided to stop making an exception for American citizens in complying with Panamanian law. Any legal process which requires this American document in Panama will now fail. A person is required by Panama law to submit a Certified True Copy of your passport with all passport pages certified. The issue is that the US Embassy will only certify the signature page. As we mentioned, all of this may change in the future however if you are an American in the process of obtaining Panamanian Citizenship and Passport, you may want to consult your lawyer before you spend a lot of time, effort, and money to get this done.
