BEIJING, Feb 15 (KUNA) -- The Wulong Karst region, located in Chongqing, China, stretches as a breathtaking natural landscape where deep mountains and vast caves intertwine with stone bridges and eroded cliffs, creating a truly awe-inspiring panorama.
The word "karst" refers to the rock formations created by the erosion of carbonate rocks by water over thousands of years, forming caves, natural bridges, valleys, underground rivers, and tunnels, a living testament to the forces of nature.
Within this landscape stands the historic Tianfu Post Office, originally an important postal station during the Tang Dynasty, preserving a part of the region's cultural heritage.
In 2007, the UN's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) inscribed the Wulong Karst region on its World Natural Heritage List, recognizing its unique scientific and aesthetic value, which remains a living bridge between stunning natural beauty and rich human history. (end)
