TikTok Alternative App Returns to Google Play
(MENAFN) UpScrolled, an application created by Palestinian-Australian programmer Issam Hijazi as a substitute for TikTok, was restored on the Google Play Store on Sunday following a brief removal.
"It's official… We're back together! Google Play reinstated," the platform announced on its verified account on the US social media site X.
The day before, it posted: "Looks like Google Play put our relationship on pause this Valentine’s Day. Our app is currently unavailable for download on the Play Store.
"We are taking this seriously and working closely with the Google Play Team to resolve this."
A few hours afterward, the service reported it was "currently experiencing server issues due to an incredible surge of new users," which were subsequently addressed.
The app gained significant attention online as its user numbers skyrocketed from 150,000 to several million within just seven days.
Introduced in June 2025, UpScrolled's swift popularity emerged amid mounting criticism of mainstream social networks. Some TikTok users claimed that pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel content was being subjected to “shadow banning” on the platform.
